What is STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Fancy?
CAD-CUT® Fancy is a cuttable effect vinyl for textile printing, applied to garments and other textile products using a cutting plotter and heat press. The vinyl has a material thickness of 200 microns, giving a clear visual effect without the very coarse and heavy surface often associated with traditional glitter vinyls.
The surface combines glitter with decorative reflection. When light hits the design, the vinyl’s shine and structure are enhanced, making the print more vibrant and visible. This effect makes CAD-CUT® Fancy suitable for designs that need to attract attention and stand out from standard matt textile prints.
The vinyl has a self-adhesive carrier, which keeps letters, shapes and separate elements in place during weeding and positioning. This makes it easier to work with designs where accurate placement is important.
Glitter effect with the feel of flex vinyl

Choose between a glossy and more matt finish
CAD-CUT® Fancy has a glossy surface as standard, which highlights the glitter and reflective effect. If a more subtle look is desired, the glossy finish can be changed to a more matt surface with an additional press.
This makes the vinyl versatile, as the visual result can be adapted to different designs. The glossy finish provides maximum shine and reflection, while the matt surface gives a more understated yet still decorative appearance.
Always carry out a test on the chosen textile before starting larger production. The result may vary depending on textile type, heat press, pressure and the cover sheet used.
Application at 150 °C for 10 seconds
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Fancy is applied using the following standard settings:
- Temperature: 150 °C
- Pressing time: 10 seconds
- Pressure: Medium
- Hotronix® level: Approx. 4–6
- Carrier removal: Warm Peel
After pressing, the carrier film is removed warm using Warm Peel. The carrier should therefore be removed while the design is still warm, using a calm and even motion.
Use a heat press with a stable temperature and even pressure across the entire platen. Uneven pressure or temperature may cause the vinyl not to adhere correctly to all parts of the design.
Suitable for popular textile types
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Fancy can be used on several common materials for clothing and textile decoration:
- 100% cotton
- 100% polyester
- Cotton and polyester blends
The material compatibility makes the vinyl suitable for T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, sportswear, clubwear, workwear, promotional clothing and merchandise.
When applying to 100% polyester, the vinyl should always be tested before production. Polyester dyes, surface treatments and heat resistance can vary and may affect the final result.

Not recommended for layered designs
STAHLS does not recommend CAD-CUT® Fancy for designs with multiple vinyl layers. The vinyl should therefore be used as the top visible element or placed directly onto the textile as a standalone design.
For multi-colour designs, it is recommended to build the design using separate elements placed next to each other rather than applying Fancy on top of or beneath other textile vinyls. This helps avoid unnecessary thickness and repeated heat exposure.

Efficient and user-friendly workflow
Working with STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Fancy follows the standard process for cuttable textile vinyl:
- Create the design in your preferred design software.
- Mirror the design before cutting.
- Carry out a test cut and adjust the cutting settings.
- Cut the design using a suitable cutting plotter.
- Remove the excess vinyl around the design.
- Place the design on the textile with the carrier side facing up.
- Press the design at 150 °C for 10 seconds.
- Use medium pressure, equivalent to level 4–6 on Hotronix®.
- Remove the carrier film warm using Warm Peel.
The manufacturer recommends a minimum line thickness of approx. 1.5 mm to achieve stable processing. The correct blade depth, cutting force and speed depend on the cutting plotter, the level of detail in the design and the condition of the blade.
For weeding, an EZ Weeder®, LED Weeder, LED Pin or suitable tweezers can be used. For heat pressing, a Grip cover sheet or a non-stick coated cover sheet is recommended.
Washing and care
Textiles decorated with STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Fancy can be washed at up to 40 °C. Always follow the garment manufacturer’s care instructions if the textile requires a lower temperature.
The garment should be turned inside out before washing and ironing. The vinyl can be tumble dried on a gentle programme but is not suitable for dry cleaning.
Avoid liquid detergent, bleach, fabric softener and washing capsules, as aggressive ingredients may affect the vinyl. Also avoid ironing directly on the surface of the design. Instead, iron the garment from the reverse side.
