What is STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Flock?

CAD-CUT® Flock is a cuttable flock film for heat pressing, processed with a cutting plotter and transferred onto textiles using a heat press. The surface of the film consists of dense flock fibres, creating its characteristic soft and velvet-like finish.

The material thickness is 480 microns, giving a more pronounced and slightly raised textile print compared with standard thin flex film. The extra structure makes the design visible from multiple angles and gives it a clear physical surface.

Always carry out a test cut before final production. The ideal settings depend on factors such as:

The blade should cut through the flock material without damaging the underlying carrier. Too little cutting pressure can make weeding difficult, while too much pressure can cut through the carrier film.

Application at 165 °C for 15 seconds

After pressing, the carrier can be removed while the design is still warm or after the textile has cooled down. Choose the method that gives the most stable result on the specific textile.

Use a heat press with even temperature and consistent pressure across the entire design. The thicker structure of flock film requires correct contact with the textile throughout the pressing process.

For garments with seams, zips, buttons, pockets or other uneven areas, a suitable press pillow or smaller lower platen should be used. This helps ensure even pressure across the full design.

Not suitable for layered designs

STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Flock is not intended for multi-layer prints where another heat transfer vinyl is placed on top of the flock surface. The dense fibres do not provide a suitable base for additional film layers.

For multi-colour designs, the individual colour elements should therefore be placed next to each other rather than on top of each other. The design can, for example, be divided into separate areas, letters or graphic elements, all of which have direct contact with the textile.

Flock film should be used as a standalone design or as separate elements in combination with other films. Always test the full design before series production.

Efficient workflow with CAD-CUT® Flock

Working with STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Flock follows the standard process for cuttable heat transfer vinyl:

• Create the design in your preferred design software.
• Mirror the design before cutting.
• Carry out a test cut and adjust blade pressure and cutting speed.
• Cut the design with a suitable cutting plotter.
• Remove the excess flock film around the design.
• Place the design on the textile with the carrier side facing up.
• Press the design at 165 °C for 15 seconds.
• Use medium pressure, corresponding to level 4–6 on Hotronix^®.
• Remove the carrier warm or cold.
• Check adhesion and surface finish before packing the textile.

For weeding, STAHLS' Weeder®, EZ Weeder®, LED Weeder, LED Pin or suitable tweezers are recommended. When heat pressing, a Grip cover sheet or a non-stick coated cover sheet can be used to protect the design, textile and heat press.

Washing and care

Textiles decorated with STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Flock can be washed at up to 60 °C, provided that the garment’s own care instructions allow this temperature.

Turn the garment inside out before washing and ironing to protect the flock fibres from unnecessary friction. The finished textile print is not suitable for dry cleaning or tumble drying.

Avoid liquid detergent, bleach, fabric softener and washing capsules, as aggressive ingredients can affect the film. Also avoid ironing directly on the flock surface. Iron the garment from the reverse side only.
