STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram – Effect heat transfer vinyl with holographic shine and sparkling glitter look
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram is a professional and decorative effect heat transfer vinyl for textile printing, combining holographic colour play, a glossy finish and sparkling glitter effects. When light hits the surface of the film, it reflects in different directions and creates a vibrant look that changes as the garment moves.
The holographic surface makes even simple logos, names, text and graphic symbols more eye-catching. This makes the film an ideal choice for textile designs where the motif needs to work as a decorative focal point and stand out clearly from standard matt flex film.
At Signproduction.co.uk, STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram is ideal for textile printers, clothing brands, sports clubs, associations and creative businesses looking for a professional holographic vinyl for textiles. It can be used for fashion garments, merchandise, event clothing, clubwear, workwear, promotional clothing and personalised textile products.
What is STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram?
CAD-CUT® Hologram is a cuttable holographic heat transfer vinyl that is processed with a cutting plotter and transferred to the textile using a heat press. The film has a glossy surface with a special hologram and glitter effect that reflects the light and gives the design extra depth.
The material thickness is only 105 microns. This makes Hologram relatively thin compared with many other decorative effect films. The result is a clear, glossy design that still feels relatively light on the textile.
The film is available in various decorative versions, including rainbow spectrum, crystal, metallic and sparkle effects. Each variant reacts differently to light, allowing you to choose between a colourful hologram look and more classic sparkling metallic finishes.
A unique combination of hologram and glitter
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram combines two popular effects in one textile film. The glossy hologram surface creates shifting colour play, while the glitter effect adds extra shine and reflection.
The finished textile print changes visually depending on:
- The direction and intensity of the light
- The chosen hologram variant
- The colour of the textile
- The size and shape of the design
- The angle from which the design is viewed
On dark textiles, a strong contrast is often achieved, highlighting the glossy surface. On light and coloured textiles, the effect can appear softer and more integrated. Always carry out a test on the actual garment if the colour play is important to the design.
Create fashionable details and eye-catching designs
CAD-CUT® Hologram is developed for designs where decorative details and fashion trends play an important role. The film can be used as the main material in a complete design or for individual elements that need to stand out.
Hologram vinyl works particularly well for:
- Logos and brand names
- Names and decorative text
- Graphic symbols and illustrations
- Numbers and letters
- Metallic edges and details
- Party and event designs
- Seasonal textile designs
- Merchandise and fan products
Even a simple design can achieve a striking look when the holographic surface reflects the light. The film is therefore especially suitable for minimalist designs where the material effect is the central visual element.
Thin effect film with a glossy surface
Many decorative films have a heavy or clearly textured surface. STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram, however, is only 105 microns thick and has a smooth, glossy finish.
The thin construction makes the film suitable for both smaller details and larger designs. It can be used for chest logos, back prints, sleeve text, decorative symbols and larger graphic areas.
For very large, continuous designs, the flexibility of the textile and the desired final appearance should always be assessed. Carry out a test production to check comfort, adhesion and the holographic surface.
Self-adhesive carrier for precise positioning
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram has a self-adhesive carrier that keeps the design elements securely in place during weeding and positioning. The adhesive surface is particularly useful for text, letters and designs with several separate parts.
If a small element lifts during weeding, it can usually be placed back onto the carrier before the design is transferred to the textile. This helps maintain the correct placement and spacing between the different parts of the design.
The manufacturer recommends a minimum line thickness of approximately 1.5 mm. Very fine lines and small elements should always be test cut, as the result depends on the cutting plotter, blade, cutting force and the shape of the design.
Easy cutting and weeding
CAD-CUT® Hologram is developed for easy processing with a standard cutting plotter. The thin film and self-adhesive carrier provide an efficient workflow from cutting to the finished textile print.
Always perform a test cut before production. The correct settings depend on several factors, including:
- The model of cutting plotter
- The angle and condition of the blade
- The size and level of detail in the design
- The cutting speed
- The cutting force used
The blade must cut through the effect film without cutting through the underlying carrier. Too little cutting pressure can make weeding difficult, while too much pressure can damage the carrier film.
Application at 150 °C for 10 seconds
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram is applied using the following standard settings:
- Temperature: 150 °C
- Pressing time: 10 seconds
- Pressure: Medium
- Hotronix® level: Approx. 4–6
- Carrier removal: Cold Peel
After heat pressing, the design and textile must cool down before the carrier film is removed. The carrier must therefore not be peeled away while the design is still warm. Once the film has cooled sufficiently, remove the carrier film slowly and evenly using Cold Peel.
Use a heat press with stable temperature and even pressure across the entire platen. Uneven temperature or insufficient pressure can affect both adhesion and the final hologram surface.
For garments with seams, pockets, zips, buttons or other uneven areas, a suitable pressing pillow or smaller lower platen is recommended. This ensures that the design has even contact with the heat press.
Suitable for cotton and polyester
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram can be used on several popular textile types:
- 100% cotton
- 100% polyester after prior testing
- Sublimation-dyed polyester after prior testing
- Polyester and cotton blends
The material compatibility makes the film suitable for T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, sportswear, clubwear, workwear, merchandise and fashion products.
For polyester and sublimation-dyed textiles, a test must always be carried out before production. Polyester dyes, surface treatments and heat resistance can vary and may affect adhesion, colour reproduction and the final hologram look.
Benefits of STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram

Not recommended for layered designs
STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram is not recommended for multi-layer printing. The film should therefore not be placed on top of another textile film, and other films should not be heat pressed on top of the Hologram surface.
For multi-coloured designs, the individual elements should instead be placed next to each other. This allows each film section to make direct contact with the textile and helps preserve the glossy hologram surface as effectively as possible.
A multi-coloured logo can, for example, be divided into separate letters, colour fields or graphic shapes, positioned with a small gap between each element. Always test the full design before series production.
Applications and target groups
CAD-CUT® Hologram is suitable for both professional textile printers and creative businesses looking for a more decorative alternative to standard flex film:
- Fashion and lifestyle clothing
- Merchandise and fan products
- Festival and concert clothing
- Event and campaign clothing
- Sportswear and clubwear
- Workwear and promotional clothing
- Dancewear and performance clothing
- Party and seasonal clothing
- Personalised gifts and special productions
- Logos, text, names and graphic designs
The film can be used as the main material in the design or as a decorative detail that adds holographic shine and a clear visual focus.
Efficient workflow with CAD-CUT® Hologram
Working with STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram follows the standard process for cuttable textile film:
- Create the design in your preferred design software.
- Mirror the design before cutting.
- Ensure a minimum line thickness of approximately 1.5 mm.
- Perform a test cut and adjust the cutting settings.
- Cut the design with a suitable cutting plotter.
- Remove the excess film around the design.
- Place the design on the textile with the carrier side facing upwards.
- Press the design at 150 °C for 10 seconds.
- Use medium pressure equivalent to level 4–6 on Hotronix®.
- Allow the design and textile to cool down.
- Remove the carrier film cold using Cold Peel.
For weeding, you can use STAHLS' EZ Weeder®, LED Weeder, LED Pin or suitable tweezers. When heat pressing, a Grip cover sheet or a non-stick coated cover sheet is recommended to protect the design, textile and heat press.
Washing and care
Textiles decorated with STAHLS' CAD-CUT® Hologram can be washed at up to 40 °C, provided that the garment’s own care instructions allow this temperature.
Turn the garment inside out before washing and ironing. The textile can be tumble dried on a gentle programme, but the finished design is not suitable for dry cleaning.
Avoid liquid detergent, bleach, fabric softener and washing capsules, as aggressive ingredients may damage the film. Also avoid ironing directly on the holographic surface. Iron the garment from the reverse side only.
