STAHLS' Puff can also be used creatively to produce more than a uniform raised surface. Simple cut lines incorporated into larger design elements can produce recessed sections within the expanded material.

STAHLS' Puff Red 200 can be cut using a suitable vinyl cutting plotter. As with most heat transfer vinyl, the artwork should be mirror cut so that it appears correctly once transferred to the garment.
The material is approximately 520 microns thick, so blade pressure, cutting speed and blade depth should be adjusted for the individual cutting machine. Perform a small test cut before production to ensure the vinyl is cut cleanly without damaging the carrier.
After cutting, weed away the unwanted material surrounding the design. Professional weeding tools such as STAHLS' EZ Weeder®, LED Weeder, LED Pin or suitable tweezers can make this process easier.
The adhesive carrier helps hold individual letters, numbers and graphic elements securely in position during weeding, handling and placement.
This is particularly useful when creating designs containing several separate elements where spacing and alignment must remain accurate before heat pressing.

The wider recommended working range is approximately 150–155°C for 12–15 seconds. The optimum setting can vary depending on the heat press, garment construction and textile material, so a test application is always recommended.
Ensure that the heat press provides consistent temperature and even pressure. Avoid unnecessary additional pressing after the puff effect has developed, as repeated heat and pressure may flatten or alter the raised surface.
STAHLS' Puff Red 200 is not designed for multi-layer applications. Other heat transfer films should not be applied directly over the puff material, and puff HTV should generally not be pressed over other vinyl layers.
For multi-colour artwork, position the different materials next to each other rather than overlapping them. This allows the puff vinyl to expand correctly without interference from additional layers.
