Gütermann Sulky Rayon 40 brings a soft, reflective finish to machine embroidery and decorative stitching. Made from 100% viscose, it gives lettering, motifs and embroidered details a silky appearance without being a silk thread.
This pack contains five spools in shade 1313 Bittersweet, each holding 200 m. With 1,000 m in total, you can keep the same colour available across several projects or a series of matching items.
The thread's even sheen catches the light and helps bring out the shape and texture of your stitches. It suits designs where the appearance of the embroidery is an important part of the finished piece, from small monograms to larger decorative motifs.
All five spools contain the same shade, rather than an assortment of colours. Use colour code 1313 when matching an existing design or ordering additional thread, as screen settings and lighting can affect how the colour appears online.
Rayon 40 is primarily a machine embroidery thread. It can also be used for decorative machine stitching where a lustrous finish is wanted, with suitable applications including:
Choose the needle, stabiliser and stitch settings to suit the fabric and design. A short test on a matching fabric sample helps you check tension, stitch formation and the overall appearance before embroidering the finished item.
Gütermann recommends a machine embroidery needle in size NM 70 to 90 for Rayon 40. Select the appropriate size within that range according to your fabric, machine and embroidery requirements.
Correct threading and balanced tension are important for consistent stitching. Although the thread is designed for machine embroidery, results also depend on the condition of the needle, the stabiliser and the density of the design.
Follow the care instructions for both the thread and the embroidered fabric, using whichever requirements are more restrictive. The fabric, backing and any additional decorations may need gentler treatment than the thread itself.
Test washing and ironing on a sample when working with unfamiliar materials. Store unused spools in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight.
